It's a new year as well as a new month! Even though the kids are heading back to school after a couple of weeks off for Winter Break, there are still several activities and programs for the whole family to enjoy.

January 2

First Friday
The First Friday monthly arts events will be hosting more than 50 artists this month at the outdoor festival. Be sure to dress warmly!

January 6

RADkids Safety Education Workshop
Children ages 6-12 can learn about practical life skills in a hands-on setting. Johnson Community School; 340 Villa Monterey. Call (702) 229-6175 for more information.

January 9

Dr. King Making My Dream Truth Essay Contest
Kids ages 6-15 can participate in an essay contest about Dr. Martin Luther King. Entries are accepted no later than January 9. Call (702) 229-5096 for rules and further information.

Free Chess Workshop
From 3:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. at the Doolittle Community Center, kids 7-14 can learn the basics of playing chess. The workshop is free and further information can be obtained by calling (702) 229-6374.

Children's Night Out Kids get to enjoy their own night out with games, a movie, snacks and craft making. Children ages 3-12 are welcome and must be potty trained. $15 fee per child, call (702) 229-1607. Cimarron Rose Community Center; 5591 N Cimarron Road.

Kids' Night Out Molasky Middle School is also hosting a Kids' Night Out for children ages 6-12 from 6:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m. For $15 children get to enjoy a night of games, pizza and a movie. Call (702) 229-5345.

January 13

2nd Tuesday
Clark County Community School, located at 3074 Arville Street, is hosting a free night of activities, crafts and games. Registration must be made at least one week in advance by calling (702) 229-3686.

January 16

Princess Tea Party
Girls ages three months to 10 years will get to enjoy a real tea party at Molasky Middle School 5:00 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. Fee is $20 and advance registration is required. Call (702) 229-5345.

January 26

Magnetic Magic Workshop
From 5:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m., kids ages 3-12 will get to enjoy learning about the "magic" of magnets from Mad Science instructors. Fee is $15 at the Becker Community School, 9110 Hillpointe Road. Advance registration is required, call (702) 229-2482 for more information.

Madagascar Party
Kids ages 3-12 will get to enjoy making a lion mask, a penguin pin and a zebra hat based on the popular kids' movie from 5:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. Light refreshments will be served. Johnson Community School; 340 Villa Monterey. Call (702) 229-6175 for more information.
