The Joint at Hard Rock Hotel is one of the premiere concert venues in Las Vegas. To anyone who frequents local favorite Hard Rock Hotel and Casino this is of little surprise. From the main circle bar to Mr. Lucky's to Rehab, Hard Rock has long been a haven for locals and visitors looking for a slightly edgier Las Vegas.
The Joint has seen two incarnations at Hard Rock. The first was a 1,500 seat showroom that could accommodate up to 2,000 people when the seating was removed. It opened in 1995 and for nearly 15 years was one of the best places to see a show in Las Vegas. Fond memories of seeing Kings of Leon at the old Joint still swim in my mind. Yet, as time went by other concert venues opened in Las Vegas, most notably the Pearl at the Palms, and The Joint was no longer the undisputed king.
So in early 2009 Motley Crue closed out the Joint in true Hard Rock fashion. Barely two months later the Joint reopened, more than doubling in size to 4,000 seats. Since then it has seen a who's who of influential rock legends and up and comers. When a band comes to Vegas they come to the Joint.
As I once wrote "Ask any frequent concert goer and they’ll tell you smaller is definitely better." While the Joint has definitely grown bigger it still manages to hold onto that smaller club feel that you will not get at The Mandalay Bay Events Center or the MGM Grand Garden Arena.
Bottom line, while the Joint may be the old guy on the block, its recent face lift and dedication to greatness make it more than capable of competing with the likes of the Pearl at the Palms and the Boulevard Pool at The Cosmopolitan. It will remain a prime place for rock and roll for years to come.
