Las Vegas may not be famous for its breweries and brew pubs. Per capita Las Vegas is most certainly not Belgium or Colorado, but just because we live in a desert does not mean that we need be parched by substandard beers served at too cold temperatures designed to stun our taste buds into beer ignorance.

Across the Valley, Las Vegas breweries and brew pubs have popped up to provide us beer-ophiles with some great options. From seasonal bocks to double hopped IPAs I'll endeavor to explore the variety of tasty ales and lagers that brewmasters throughout Las Vegas are making for us all. Your job is to head out and enjoy them. Tough gig that.

Sin City Brewing Company

The folks at Sin City Brewing Company have really embraced the naughty and devilish side of Las Vegas. Their logo screams naughty fun and their beers, while few in number, are a welcome departure from the norm one gets while walking the Las Vegas Strip. With three convenient locations on Las Vegas' main drag, Sin City Brewing Company has positioned themselves to be an easy spot to grab a tasty craft brewed beer and leaps to the top of the list of must visit Las Vegas Breweries.

The first location is at The Miracle Mile Shops of Planet Hollywood, the second, and largest is in The Flamingo and the third, and newest, is located in the Grand Canal Shoppes at The Venetian. From the wheat joy of their Weisse beer to the heavy goodness of their Stout, Sin City is a convenient option for beer lovers. Check out their current selections here.

Big Dog Draft House Brew Pub

Hankerin' for a tasty and fresh brew made right in the valley? Head over to Big Dog's Draft House on Rancho where a rotating stable of 25 + beers are tapped and ready to please. Housed next to Big Dog's award winning micro-brewery, The Draft House has long been the favorite of locals looking for something new to bash their palate with while supporting a Las Vegas brewery. See there current slate of beers here.

Sip an Extra Hopped Pale Ale, a Leglifter Light or the extra flavorful Dirty Dog IPA and take in a NFL game. Beware though, this is Cheese Head country so tread lightly Bears and Vikes fans.

Joseph James Brewing Company

Located in Henderson the Joseph James Brewing Company claims to be the first gluten free beer available in a can. As cans continue to sweep the craft beer industry, and are embraced by hipsters and beer lovers alike this is likely to change, but for now it is a tasty bit of trivia that brings some much needed notice to this Las Vegas brewery. The gluten free beer in question is Fox Tail and it is a tasty pale beer well worth trying. See all of Joseph James craft beer here.

Triple 7 Restaurant and Brewery

Located in Downtown Las Vegas at The Main Street Station, Triple 7 Brewery is is one of the better brew pubs to taste some fine German style beers. From their Brewmaster's Special, a traditional Marzen style Oktoberfest Bier to their highly rated Black Cherry Stout, there's always something new to taste. There new Soothsayer Saison is a Belgian Farmhouse style that you can try for a measly $2.50 during Triple 7's happy hour Monday to Friday from 3:00 to 6:00 PM.

I won't say that Triple 7 is my favorite Las Vegas brewery, but it is a fine way to spend an afternoon before ziplining at Fremont Street or taking in a First Friday celebration.

Gordon Biersch Brewery and Restaurants.

Las Vegas is home to two of this San Jose, CA based company's brewery and restaurants. One on Paradise and a second one in Boca Park at South Rampart in the Summerlin area.. Famous around town for their tasty German, Czech and Belgian style doppelbocks, pilsners and gose beers, their spring Maibock was an early fave upon my arrival on the Las Vegas brewery scene. See their current slate of craft beer here.

Tenaya Creek Brewery

The owners of this up and coming Las Vegas brewery wanted to bring quality craft beer to a city not known for creating such tasty marvels. They clearly have done their job, having won a Gold Medal at The Great American Beer Festival for their pilsner. Despite the common-ness of the pilsner style these guys are adventurous, brewing a range of tasty styles you won't see at tamer breweries. Try the Old Jackalope Barleywine for a big kick of sweetness or an Alaskan tropplebock for a truly unique beer drinking experience. See all there craft beer available on tap here.

Barley's Casino and Brewing Company

Barley's Casino and Brewing Company in Henderson is the oldest of the Las Vegas breweries and one of the best kept secrets to those who fail to venture of the Las Vegas Strip. In truth it should be mentioned among the other Las Vegas bars that are hidden gems for locals. Their hefeweizen and oktoberfest are traditional faves and while the beer selection may not be huge the local feel makes it a place to visit. See all their craft beer here.

Chicago Brewing Company

The Chicago Brewing Company is another brewpub restaurant to join the Las vegas brewery scene and like Gordon Biersch's Las Vegas breweries it has two locations. One Downtown at the Four Queens and another in Summerlin near the Canyon Gate Country Club. The Cocoa for Coconuts porter is a must try for those who like tasty additions to our beers. See all their craft beer selections here.
