Spring Mountains and Mount Charleston

Heather Rawlinson
Mount Charleston, the highest mountain peak of the Spring Mountains, is located just minutes north of Las Vegas on US-95.

Located within the Humboldt-Toiyabe National Forest, Mount Charleston is the most topographically prominent peak in Nevada and the eighth most prominent peak in the contiguous United States.

The Great Outdoors
The beautiful, cool canyons of the Spring Mountains are a year-round oasis for Las Vegas locals and visitors alike. From extensive hiking trails and horseback riding to skiing and camping, everyone can find something they enjoy doing far away from the urban grind of Las Vegas.

Lodging & Dining
For those who are only interested in taking nature in small doses, there are several lodgings available on the mountain, such as The Hotel on Mt. Charleston, and Mt. Charleston Lodge, as well as a restaurant located within the Lodge and several designated picnic areas.

Weather
Since the weather on Mount Charleston is several degrees cooler than that in Las Vegas, make sure you check weather conditions before venturing up.

Getting There
To get to Mount Charleston and the Spring Mountains, simply take the US-95 North (toward Reno) just past the Durango exit. The left turnoff is prominently marked, just follow the signs up the mountain.

Please follow all posted speed limits -- not only do police officers patrol the road but there are also year-round residents on the mountain.
