While the Mob had a huge hand in creating modern Las Vegas, and some say still lurk in the shadows to this day, they haven't fared so well in recent years. The recent opening of the long delayed Mob Museum hopes to change this, but will it suffer the same fate as its competitor The Las Vegas Mob Experience, that launched early last summer has already closed due to poor tickets sales and lingering issues. While it plans to re-open under the name the Mob Attraction Las Vegas it hints at a potential fate for the brand new Mob Museum.
The publicly funded Mob Museum, once endorsed by former mayor Oscar Goodman, who is well known for once representing mob figures in court, opened Tuesday the 14th amid a flurry of criticism from fiscal conservatives. An exploration of the history of the thugs and gangsters that built a small dusty highway into the Las Vegas Strip, the mob Museum contends it is more educational than theatrical. Only time will tell if it goes the way of the Mob itself or thrives in the new Las Vegas of Cirque du Soleil and Blue Man Group.
