The NFL lockout, had it cost us any of the 2011 season, would have been a serious financial and cultural blow to the entire United States. Not only would we have seen hundreds of fans stumbling around, as if in an alcoholic daze, every Sunday but the economy could have been affected. While the figures may be impossible to generate just think of the billions that would have been lost had the NFL lockout continued. Fantasy Football alone is said to generate hundreds of millions for websites, magazine publishers and bars and restaurants. Supermarkets devote entire end caps to "Stocking up for the big game."
But here in Las Vegas the turmoil would have been even more dire. Sportsbooks see billions bet on NFL games. Had the lockout continued jobs would have been lost throughout the city and the trickle down affect could have been devastating. So the next time you're cheering on your favorite team or checking your star running back's fantasy stats, remember this game is much more than a game. And holy moly are we glad it is back.
