Online Vehicle Registration Opens for Las Vegans

Wednesday January 28, 2009
This is some good news for valley residents: some Las Vegans can now register their new vehicles or transfer existing plates online without going to a DMV location!

The Electronic Dealer Report of Sale system is beginning a trial run with 10 local car dealerships (the Desert group, Findlay Honda, People’s Mazda and Towbin Hummer) which will issue the required DRS to the department over the Internet, along with insurance information and emission testing results.

The customer then uses the copy of the DRS to complete the registration on the DMV website themselves. A temporary movement permit can then be printed by the user until plates and decals arrive in the mail.

There are some restrictions of course. Motor homes and trailers cannot be registered online, and certain license plate styles, like antique or classic vehicles, cannot be transferred.

For further information and questions, visit the DMV website or call (702) 486-4368.
