Recycle Your Christmas Tree

By December 27, 2008

With Christmas over and the New Year just a few days away, many Las Vegas residents are getting ready to get their holiday decorations down and stored away until next year. While it may be tempting to put your live tree out at the curb, consider having it recycled this year instead. Recycled trees are chipped into mulch that can be used for city landscaping.

There are several locations (PDF) around the valley that offer the service for free, making it easy for everyone to find a spot close by and most are even open 24 hours a day until January 14.

The number of recycled trees in just the last seven years has grown exponentially: in 2001 only 3,363 trees were recycled as opposed to 18,951 in 2007. That's amazing!

If you're heading out to find a recycling location, keep a few things in mind:
~ All decorations, including tinsel, nails and wire, have to be removed from the tree.
~ Flocked trees cannot be recycled.
