First Friday in the Arts District

Monday August 11, 2008
First Friday in the Arts District is a fantastic reason to get outside, enjoy some live music, look at original art by local talent and even do a little shopping!

Since its beginning in 2002, First Friday has welcomed Las Vegas residents to a huge block party on the pedestrian-friendly streets of Colorado and Casino Center.

Merchants line the sidewalks with their handmade crafts – jewelry, paintings, photography, pretty much anything you can imagine – and ice cold beverages and food can be found at nearly every corner. A live local band takes center stage around dusk and continues long into the warm summer evening.

The First Friday event on August 1 will also bring some great new additions to the scene – new streetlights, new greenery and trees and even embedded art in the sidewalk. Five new galleries and shops have also opened in the last month alone.

Free maps and event listings can be picked up at the Funk House at 1228 S. Casino Center Drive, or at the Arts Factory at 101-109 E. Charleston. Gates are open from 6:00 p.m. until 10:00 p.m., with some entertainment continuing later. For more information, call (702) 384-0092.
